2. Contribute Artifacts

We're looking for a range of documents about life in Texas, whether from Texans or those just passing through. Our goal is to create a digital archive. We want to share your materials, but we don't need to own them. Your family history can remain in family hands, while helping us write the social history of Texas. Handwritten Life...

Our primary focus is on handwritten documents that reveal the nature of life in Texas: political and religious manuscripts, personal letters and journals, drafts of essays and speeches, and more quotidian materials such as commonplace books, ranch records, household inventories, and receipts.

Letters Home...

We're particularly interested in letters from military personnel to friends and family at home. If you have materials from someone who served at any of the Texas military installations, including--but not limited to--Lackland AFB, Randolph AFB, Brooks City, Martindale Army Air Field, Dyess AFB, Goodfellow AFB, Laughlin AFB, Sheppard AFB, Fort Hood, Fort Bliss, Fort Sam Houston, Corpus Christi Naval Air Station, Kingsville Naval Air Station, Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base, Camp Mabry, Camp Bullis, and Camp Swift....or installations now closed like Camp Barkley, Fort D. A. Russell, Grullo Rancho and Kelly Field. And yes, we're interested in letters from Texans posted abroad or at other installations outside of Texas.

Sights and Sounds...

Our colleague in film studies, Allison Whitney, is interested in collecting narratives of people's experiences with media, whether radio, film, home movies, television or even video games. She's particularly interested in materials related to local cinemas in Texas. If you have documents pertaining to the production or exhibition of motion pictures, or even tins of film lying around, send us This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
